St. Matthew’s Catholic School located in Kalispell, MT is looking for a certified Art Teacher. The Teacher is responsible for providing high-level learning experiences to children. The teacher will follow the course of study prescribed by the St. Matthew’s Catholic School instructional programs/materials in a manner that meets the spiritual and academic expectations established by the principal. A primary responsibility is the development of student competencies and skills to be successful learners.


The person who fills this position will be working full-time, Monday – Friday with full benefits, which include health, dental, vision, retirement, and life insurance. The Teacher is responsible for providing high-level learning experiences to children. Teaches the course of study prescribed by St. Matthew's Catholic School instructional programs/materials in a manner that meets the spiritual and academic expectations established by the principal. Primary responsibility is the development of student competencies and skills to be successful learners.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Planning lessons in art and art history according to students' learning goals.

  • Preparing the classroom by setting up and gathering equipment.

  • Providing instruction on how to use graphite, charcoal pencils, oil, acrylic, and watercolor paint.

  • Teaching art history to students.

  • Assigning and grading exams and projects.

  • Reporting on student progress.

  • Treat matters of school business and student information in a confidential manner.

  • Be punctual, trustworthy, cooperative, and work without direct supervision.

  • Work well with parents, students, faculty, and staff and assist them whenever possible/ necessary.

  • Be self-initiating, possess excellent organizational skills, see things that need to be done and plan for them.

  • Be responsible for the arrangement, appearance, and learning environment of the classroom. This includes wall displays and the cleanliness of the children's lockers.

  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning problems.

  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment for every child by being alert to hazards, following health and safety regulations and procedures, and being a good role model.

  • Comply with other duties as mutually determined by the principal.

  • VIRTUS training.

  • Familiarize yourself with the policies and procedures of the school

  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions necessary to meet the annual requirements.

  • Report all accidents or injuries involving children, staff, parents, or visitors to the principal.

  • Often required to stand and sit; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, and squat.

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child.
